Easter Sunday Walk – Getting Ready for Walk the Wight

We made an early start this Easter Sunday, heading out at 8am—two hours earlier than usual—to fit in a longer walk and start building up for Walk the Wight, which is now just three weeks away. The route ended up being double the length of our normal Sunday walks, finishing up around 12pm.

It was a hilly one, which definitely got the heart rate up, but it felt good to be out and pushing ourselves a bit more than usual. The stretch across the top of Compton Down was especially windy—one of those moments where you just keep your head down and keep moving. By the time we got to Freshwater, the rain had started, but it didn’t last long, and we were welcomed by sunshine again as we reached Mottistone Down.

The walk took us through a mix of scenery—fields of sheep and cows, and even across a golf course at one point. It was a good reminder of how varied and beautiful the island is, even when the weather’s being unpredictable.

We stopped off at The Bike Box Café at Freshwater Bay Clifftop Carpark, which was a really nice break. A hot drink and a cheeky slice of cake were very welcome at that point, and the staff there were lovely. The view from the carpark is also worth mentioning—definitely a spot we’ll go back to.

And just as we got back to the car, Vintage Scoops ice cream van was already there. A nice end to a decent morning out.

All in all, a solid walk and a good step towards getting ready for the main event in a few weeks’ time.
